Emergency Motion: Rate your internship
This JCR notes that:
- Internships are numerous but hard to assess beforehand for students hoping to apply for one.
- We have a large body of student knowledge here at Brasenose, which we really need to access.
- That students are busy, and best motivated by the promise of various beverages, as proven the highly successful chlamydia tests carried out by the welfare reps.
This JCR therefore proposes that:
- We establish scheme whereby internships that students have participated in are rated and posted on the JCR website following a set template that will cover various areas (What it entailed, levels of responsibility, wages, travel, atmosphere etc.)
- That those whose reviews are used get given a ticket for one drink down the bar (to the maximum value of £2.10), to reward them for their time.
Proposed: Mike Hinge
Seconded: Jakob Breinholt
Comments from meeting:
Questions were raised as to how it would be prevented if someone writes a bad review
Careers rep will be in charge of awarding the drink
Questions were asked about why it was £2.10
Amendment to £2.20
VERDICT: Motion passed (with amendment)

1. Support for the 2012 Oxford Forum for International Development (OxFID)
This JCR notes that:
1. A member of Brasenose is currently directing The Oxford Forum for International Development (OxFID), the UK\'s highest profile student-led conference which takes place at the Said Business School on February 24th-26th 2012.
2. Hosted by the Oxford Hub and run by Oxford students, OxFID attracts more than 400 student delegates from across the UK each year, who interact with, learn from and are inspired by world-class speakers from the public sector, NGOs and the world of academia.
3. OxFID 2012 is currently looking for sponsorship which would contribute to making the 2012 conference bigger and better. This year OxFID especially needs resources for implementing its outreach programme that (a) sponsors exceptional speakers including those from developing countries to speak at OxFID 2012
(b) sponsors students from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda to enable them to attend and contribute the conference.
This JCR believes that
1. OxFID provides a great opportunity for students to engage with speakers in the vanguard of international development. It also has the potential of inspiring more students to engage with development issues and make a positive difference to their local and global community.
2. It is important to extend these opportunities to students outside of the university, which OxFID’s project to fund students from Uganda and Bangladesh promises to do. 3. Student-led initiatives with positive goals warrant support. Donations and support will enable OxFID to host more workshops, sponsor speakers from abroad and record the event to post online, creating a pool of ideas available throughout the year.
This JCR resolves to:
-Assist OxFID by donating £300 (or a negotiated amount) to OxFID. -Provide logistical support to the OxFID outreach programme as required (for example rooms for accommodation)
Proposed: Emily Hislop
Seconded: Gregory Godik
Comments from meeting:
Questions were raised about what % of the cost we would be funding
Brasenose would get a thanks in programmes for funding this
Questions were raised as to whether it was University or college-wide
This is university wide
Three-day conference
Outreach programme – flying in people

2. Amendments to the constitution - in regards to roles of Charities and RAG rep & E&E rep
This JCR notes that:
- The constitution is out-of-date with regards to the roles of the Charities and RAG rep and the Environment & Ethics rep
- The constitution needs updating on the role of the Charities, Environment & Ethics Committee
This JCR further notes that:
- New representatives being voted for at the end of this term need to be clear as to their roles so that the progress that has made does not get lost
This JCR therefore proposes that:
- The constitution is altered to read as stated below (additions/changes in bold)
Proposed: Roberta Iley
