The JCR runs a key insurance scheme, which most of you have subscribed to and are therefore entitled to claim for the costs of lost keys. To see how to claim and how much money you receive back, see below.
The replacement cost of keys and fobs for college rooms is unfortunately very high, as ASSA security keys are used at BNC. The cost of replacing these keys is often well in excess of £100 (additionally, fobs are around £25), and for graduate accommodation it can be in excess of £200.
Because of this, it is strongly recommended that you opt to take part in the insurance scheme, which is provided on a not for profit basis for your welfare. The premium for the whole academic year is £9.50 for undergraduates; and £12 for graduates due to the higher costs of the replacement keys.
Within the period covered by your premium payment (one academic year), you can claim up to £250. The date on the batels you hand in to the treasurer is taken to be the date you are claiming on. Your claim can be for any number or combination of keys and fobs and 80% of the claim will be paid out, up to the maximum of £250.
If you have lost a key/fob, College will charge you on batels the following term. Once you have received your batels, you then provide the Treasurer with a copy of it (you will not get it back). The easiest way is simply to put it into the Treasurer's pidge. He/she will then write you a cheque and pidge it to you.
Please make sure you follow the instructions for claim key insurance to avoid any unnecessary work for the Bursary (and the Treasurer)!
