This page contains information concerning domestic issues (i.e. Food, Rooms etc), you may also find the room guide and hall menus useful. This page is divided into two sections; firstly who to contact if you have a problem and secondly general domestic information. Any problems do feel free to contact me.
Who you should contact if you have a domestic problem or complaint
First port of call is either to contact your scout or email the workshop, who are really good at getting things fixed asap. If having contacted these people you get no reply/the problem isn't fixed contact me and I'll do some chasing for you to get it sorted.
Problem with your Room / Bathroom / Kitchen
Routine problems e.g. light bulbs
Talk/leave a note for your scout or email the workshop.
Picture Hooks
Again talk to your scout or email the workshop who can put in proper hooks if you have no picture rail(hooks to hang over a picture rail can be purchased quite cheaply from Robert Dyas in town)
More major problems
Email the workshop, go to see them in college between 9am-5pm next to staircase XVI or in Frewin you can fill in a pink maintenance slip at the bottom of staircase IV by the laundry room.
Normally just informally talking to your neighbour sorts the problem, if however noise is persistent speak to the assistant dean/porters.
Problem with Food in Halls
Any complaints/compliments/suggestions about Hall contact me and I'll bring them up at the next menu meeting and get back to you on what was decided.
Guest Dinners
Hopefully there won't be any complaints because I am organizing these along with the HCR domestic rep, but I welcome any suggestions, comments or complaints to improve the night for the future. We aim to have one every term depending on their popularity.
General Domestic Issues
Rooms
Toasters and Toastie makers: college is particularly hot on these for fire regulations, preventing false alarms etc. The Scouts do get told to confiscate them so it really is advisable not to bring them! If they are confiscated, they can be collected from the overseas storage rooms opposite the JCR or from Gill Walker at the bottom of Frewin Staircase IV at the end of term.
Electrical testing: please note the college may be inspecting rooms for electrical testing certificates, if you speak to the clerk of works he will test the equipment for you at a small charge. (Best to go to the workshop and speak to whoever is there).
Microwaves: these are dotted about the staircases in college, let me know if you're having trouble finding yours! For some staircases health and safety rules prevent there being a microwave there.
The room ballot is conducted at the end of Michaelmas term, there are separate ballots for the 1st years, 2+3years and tenancy rooms. You can look at the room guide to find which rooms you like. If you wish to live out I have some (limited) information on living out and information on where to find more information.
Hall
Guest dinners are organised at a rate of 1 per term except for Hilary term where there is halfway hall for those half way through their degrees.
Guest dinners are special formal halls where you can invite friends and family to eat "high table quality food" in hall. They are organised by the JCR and HCR domestic reps and an email will go round telling you when to sign on and how much it costs.
